Cherry Hill East boys swimming one win away from state title

The Cougars defeated Hillsborough, 102–68, in the Public Group A state semifinals on Wednesday.

Cherry Hill High School East boys swimming will have a chance to defend its New Jersey Public Group A state championship on Sunday after the Cougars defeated Hillsborough High School, 102–68, on Wednesday in the Group A state semifinals.

Jack Watson led the Cougars with first place finishes in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Jackson Brookover took first place in the 50 freestyle and was part of Cherry Hill East’s first place 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay teams. Mike Sommeling won first place in the 500 freestyle for Cherry Hill East and Tyler Tedesco was first in the 100 breaststroke.

The Cougars will try to complete their second consecutive undefeated season on Sunday when they face Bridgewater-Raritan High School in a rematch of last season’s state championship meet. The two teams will square off at The College of New Jersey at 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
