Weekly Roundup: WAMS musical, MHS swimming top this week’s stories

Catch up on the biggest stories in Moorestown this week.

WAMS is looking to delight with their production of “Once Upon a Mattress,” and MHS’ girls swimming had reason to celebrate. Catch up on everything from the past week in the Weekly Roundup.

Fourth time’s the charm for Moorestown girl’s swimming in South Group B final

In just one hour, Moorestown High School girls swimming was able to vanquish three years of frustration and heartbreak. In 2015, 2016 and 2017, the Quakers advanced to the South Jersey Public Group B sectional championship, only to be stopped in their tracks by Ocean City High School. Last Thursday, Moorestown finally broke through, defeating Ocean City, 99–71, and winning the program’s first sectional title since 2004. The victory also ended Ocean City’s four-year reign atop South Jersey Public Group B.

WAMS putting a modern twist on a classic fairytale

WAMS’ production of “Once Upon A Mattress” will take place in the school’s auditorium on Feb. 22 and 23 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 24 and 25 at 2 p.m. The show features a cast of nearly 100 students who will sing and dance as they act their way through the musical, which puts a new twist on the classic story of “The Princess and the Pea.” Seventh grader Cathryn Bogart plays Princess Winnifred who wants to marry Prince Dauntless the Drab played by seventh grader Adam Connor. Queen Aggravain, played by eighth grader Luna Ding, is opposed to this idea and develops a sensitivity test. The queen declares that if the princess can feel a pea under a stack of mattresses, she can marry Dauntless, and the plot follows the ensuing hijinx that occur along the way.
