Fellowship-trained, subspecialty neurologist Dr. Jyoti A. Pillai, was recently added to Lourdes Health System’s multi-specialty center at 1 Brace Road, Cherry Hill, NJ. Pillai specializes in epilepsy and seizure disorders.
Pillai is part of Drexel Neurosciences Institute, where she is an associate professor of neurology and serves as the director of the Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship Program, as well as director of the Neurology Clerkship for medical students at Drexel University College of Medicine. Lourdes and DNI have an agreement whereby subspecialty neurologists have regular office hours at Lourdes’ convenient outpatient Cherry Hill location.
Pillai completed her fellowship in epilepsy and neurophysiology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She completed her neurology residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania-Hahnemann University Hospital, where she also served as chief resident in neurology. She completed her internship at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Philadelphia.
Pillai earned her medical and bachelor degrees from Topiwala National Medical College at the University of Mumbai, India.
Board-certified in neurology, clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy, Pillai is a member of the American Epilepsy Society, American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, and the American Academy of Neurology. She serves as a board member and treasurer of the Pennsylvania Neurological Society and is a professional advisory board member of the Epilepsy Foundation of Eastern Pennsylvania.
Pillai has presented her work at national and international conferences, and her research has been published in medical journals such as, “Epilepsia” and American Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias. She has served as a manuscript reviewer for several journals including, Seizure: European Journal of Epilepsy; Neurology; Cerebrovascular Diseases; and the Journal of Neurology and Neurophysiology. Pillai is also a co-author of a book chapter in Advanced Therapy in Epilepsy.
Pillai has received multiple honors for her work, such as a resident scholarship to attend the Annual American Academy of Neurology meeting, as well as the “Best Teaching” award given by clinical neurophysiology fellows. She was nominated for the “June Klinghoffer Clinical Educator Award” at Drexel University College of Medicine in 2017. She was recently elected to as a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology in October 2017.
