Maselek performed powerful renditions of Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You” and Etta James’ “At Last”
With back-to-back powerful performances, Orchard Valley Middle School eighth-grader Alison Maselek bested 27 other singers and would-be pop stars to claim the title in the sixth annual Washington Township Middle School Idol contest on Feb. 2 at OVMS. Competitors representing Bunker Hill Middle School and Chestnut Ridge Middle School, as well as OVMS, performed for a standing-room-only audience and a panel of judges that included Bill Yerkes, Katie Knoblock, Hope Wagner, Molly McDonald and Bridget Costello.
Maselek performed powerful renditions of Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You” and Etta James’ “At Last” to wow the panel of judges and earn the title of WT Middle School Idol. With her win, Maselek now will perform a solo at the upcoming Washington Township High School Pops Concert on Feb. 15.
Middle School Idol is under the direction of OVMS teachers Alyssa Campanini (chorus), Amy Leso (drama) and Kelly Walz (special education), and WTHS teacher and choral director Joe Zachowski.
