The Southampton man was found asleep behind the wheel in Murphy’s parking lot early this morning
Around 1 a.m. on Feb. 9, Medford Township Police observed a black Ford F-150 stationary in the side parking lot of Murphy’s Marketplace on Stokes Road.
A 45-year-old Southampton man was found asleep behind the wheel of the vehicle. Upon making contact with the driver, police detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and he was visibly intoxicated. The driver was given standardized field sobriety tests and subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated.
During the investigation, police observed a large hunting knife and expandable baton in driver’s door panel in plain view.
The man was processed and charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. He was released to a responsible party pending a court appearance.
