Weekly Roundup: Community members honored at council meet, special needs Super Bowl party scheduled

Council says farewell to several admired Cherry Hill residents

A series of good byes kicked off the Cherry Hill Township Council meeting on Monday as council honored two residents who are stepping down from positions. Charlie Miracola received a proclamation for his 30-plus years of service on the Cherry Hill Atlantic Little League Board of Directors. Council also recognized David Snyder, who recently moved on from his position as executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Southern New Jersey.

Cherry Hill cantor hosting Super Bowl party for special needs children and families

With excitement building in the community thanks to the Philadelphia Eagles qualifying for Super Bowl LII, Cherry Hill Cantor Scott Borsky wanted to make sure there was a way the special needs population could join in on all of the fun. Borsky is organizing a special needs Super Bowl party on Feb. 4 beginning at 6 p.m. The party will be catered toward children with special needs and their families.

Cherry Hill West diver breaks meet record at SJISA 6-Dive Championships

Cherry Hill High School West senior Dillon Hall wasn’t surprised when he learned he had taken first place at the South Jersey Interscholastic Swimming Association 6-Dive Championships last week. He was surprised to learn he had broken a meet record. Hall’s score of 261.45 broke the meet record for the B Division of 241.5 set by Mike Savicky of Gloucester Catholic High School back in 1996.

Athlete of the Month: Cherry Hill East swimmer Jack Watson racks up wins, state qualifying times

Cherry Hill High School East swimmer Jack Watson was a big part of the Cougars’ perfect 9–0 record in the 2017–18 regular season. Watson qualified for this year’s NJSIAA Meet of Champions in all but two individual events and won eight individual races in the month of January alone. His outstanding effort made him The Sun’s Athlete of the Month for January.

Cherry Hill West searching for Wall of Honor nominees

Cherry Hill High School West is planning to unveil a Wall of Honor featuring alumni who are serving or have served in one the United States military branches later this year. Ahead of the wall’s unveiling, the school is looking for qualifying graduates who wish to be featured. Anyone interested in being part of the Wall of Honor can send their information to Cherry Hill West.
