Weekly Roundup: Mt. Laurel Schools Board of Education reorganizes, snow hits the town

Mt. Laurel Schools Board of Education holds reorganization meeting for 2018

This week’s Mt. Laurel Schools Board of Education reorganization meeting once again saw board member Marc Jones selected as board president and board member Diane Blair selected as vice president.

The Mt. Laurel Schools Board of Education met briefly this week for its reorganization meeting for 2018. During the meeting, the board members who ran unopposed in the November election — Christine Dickson, Diane Blair and Margaret Haynes — were sworn in for their new, three-year terms. The board also once again selected board member Marc Jones as board president and Blair as vice president for 2018.

Public invited to workshop focused on dangers of human trafficking in Mt. Laurel area on Jan. 16

Parents, professionals and all members of the Mt. Laurel community are invited to a special workshop on human trafficking sponsored by the Mt. Laurel Parent Advisory Group on Jan. 16 at Harrington Middle School. During the event, presenters Jim Halfpenny, vice president of the New Jersey Coalition Against Human Trafficking, and Samara Rudd, from New Jersey Child Assault Prevention, will speak about the dangers of human trafficking and how the issue poses a unique threat to the Mt. Laurel area.

Mt. Laurel Police ask residents to remain vigilant in light of recent residential burglaries

The following information is on file with the Mt. Laurel Township Police Department:

The Mt. Laurel Police Department is asking residents to remain vigilant in their neighborhoods in light of two recent burglaries at residences on Jan. 2. According to police, one of two residential burglaries took place on Knotty Oak Drive on Jan. 2 at 10:43 a.m., and other took place Edinburgh Lane sometime between 8 a.m. and 6:10 p.m. Police ask residents to report any suspicious activity, include, suspicious vehicles and suspicious people, by immediately calling police dispatch at (856) 234–8300 or dialing 911 in the event of an emergency.

Mt. Laurel hit with first major snowstorm of 2018, bringing several inches of snow to town

Mt. Laurel Township was hit with it’s first major snowstorm of 2018 this week. Along with several inches of snow and strong wind conditions, the storm caused Mt. Laurel Schools and the Lenape Regional High School District, including Lenape High School, to close on both Jan. 4 and Jan. 5.

With 2017 officially over, residents in Mt. Laurel can look forward to just some of what’s already planned for the municipality for 2018. Whether its the Taste of Mt. Laurel, or summer movies and concerts in the park, residents will have plenty to do throughout the year. The year will kick off with Mt. Laurel Township Council’s annual reorganization meeting on Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. in the courtroom at the Mt. Laurel Township Municipal Building.
