Welcome in 2018 at Moorestown Parks and Recreation. Everyone has similar New Year’s resolutions — get healthy, be more fit, lose weight and eat a healthier diet. Moorestown Recreation has a lot to offer to help achieve your New Year’s goals. Whether it’s learning to prepare flavorful meals with nutritious, whole foods or joining a volleyball team, where you won’t even realize you’re exercising. VOLLEYBALL
- Grades 5–9 Co-ed Volleyball Clinic — Beginner/Intermediate:
The clinics are held on Fridays from 6:30–7:45 p.m. at the Church Street Recreation Center. The clinics will stress fundamentals of play through drills. No previous experience is necessary.
- High School Co-Ed Volleyball CLINIC — All Skill Levels. Jan. 12 — March 2:
The clinics are held on Fridays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the William Allen Middle School. The clinic will stress fundamentals to prepare players to compete at a high school level.
COOKING CLASSES
- Food for Living — Two-week Intro. for Adults 16 and Older on Wednesdays, Jan. 17 and Jan. 24 at 6 to 8:30 p.m. Also on, Thursdays, Jan. 18 & Jan. 25 from 10 to 12:30 p.m.
“Healthy” food does not have to be boring or tasteless. Chef Katie Sklarow and a local physician designed this cooking class to inspire participants to make balanced and delicious meals for the whole family.
Week 1: Winter Chili — prepare a flavorful vegetable chili. Learn the health benefits of spices.
Week 2: Pulled pork caritas in lettuce wraps with guacamole and fresh vegetables. Vegetarian option available.
- Food for Living — Creating Daily Meals for Adults 16 and older. Wednesdays, starting Feb. 7 (for 4 weeks) from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and Thursdays starting Feb. 8 (for 4 weeks) from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
This class will highlight the importance of whole nutritious foods that taste great. It will lay the groundwork for a future of nutritious and enlightened meal planning.
Week 1: Start your day off right! Breakfast foods; egg strata, healthy omelets and sweet potato bake
Week 2 & 3: Travel the globe in two weeks. Explore international flavors and techniques for family dinners.
Week 4: Everyone loves dessert! Wholesome dessert recipes like butternut custard.
ACTIVITIES
- Wood Working Workshop for 2nd and 3rd Graders. Feb. 6 and Feb. 13 at 4:15 to 5:30 p.m.
This is a co-ed workshop run by Pete and Julie Bender, owners of the Moorestown Hardware Store. They will be instructing children on wood working techniques, tool use, safety and how to build a birdhouse.
- Moorestown Parks & Recreation Department is hosting the 4th Annual Special Needs Providers Fair on Sunday, Jan. 28t on the 3rd floor. Learn what services are available to individuals with special needs. Admission is free and no registration is required. If your organization provides services or products that benefit individuals with disabilities and their families you might want to purchase a space at this event. Cost for a table is $35.
