Final free flu shot clinic for children and adult residents of Burlington County set for Jan. 11

Residents can visit the Burlington County Health Department in Westampton during clinic hours that day from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

The Burlington County Health Department has been hosting a series of free flu clinics again this year to provide flu vaccines to adults and children who are residents of Burlington County.

The final, currently scheduled clinic in the series will take place on Thursday, Jan. 11, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Burlington County Health Department, 15 Pioneer Boulevard, in Westampton.

The final clinic was originally scheduled for Jan. 4, but inclement weather conditions forced county officials to move the final clinic to the new date on Jan. 11.

According to officials, the Burlington County Health Department gave approximately 1,300 flu vaccinations last year to county residents.

According to the county, in the United States, flu season occurs in the fall and winter. Seasonal flu activity usually peaks in January or February, but it can occur as early as October and as late as May. For the vaccine to provide full protection against the flu, it takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body.

Those 65 years and older, children under two, and those with weakened immune systems have a higher risk of experiencing complications from the flu. However, an annual flu shot is recommended for all residents aged six months and older by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
