On Nov. 4, Ali Chesnick, of the Class of 2019, participated in the annual PurpleStride Philadelphia walk to find a cure for pancreatic cancer. She was captain of her team, Team Boychick, which was the top fundraiser in the region this year.

Ali raised nearly $43,000 for her team this year, more than any other team in the Philadelphia area.

“I reached out to my friends, my family, local businesses and basically anyone I knew to help support research for a cure for pancreatic cancer,” Chesnick siad.

She added that she spread her message through email, videos and social media.

Chesnick lost her grandfather to pancreatic cancer in 2012, and has since been involved in fundraising efforts to find a cure.

“I wanted to find out how I could help, so after doing some research, I started a team and began fundraising,” Chesnick said.

Over the last six years, she has raised over $225,000. The annual Philadelphia PurpleStride walk takes place in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. Fifteen MFS students, in addition to the rest of her team, joined Chesnick for the walk.

“Everyone loved my Pop pop, so it means so much to me that everyone continues to support the efforts to finding a cure against pancreatic cancer,” Chesnick said.
