Local Naval serviceman promoted to Chief Petty Officer

The Eastern Regional graduate was also honored with the Torpedoman Second Class Henry Breault Award.

EMNC (SS/DV) Keith M. Ober USN of Voorhees was recently promoted to Chief Petty Officer. He was also awarded the Torpedoman Second Class Henry Breault Award for Submarine Professional excellence for outstanding professional performance at the Naval Submarine League 35th Annual symposium on Nov 2.

The Eastern Regional High School graduate is currently on his fourth Western Pacific Deployment serving as Nuclear Engineer (Submarine Warfare Specialist/Diver) aboard the USS Texas (SSN 775) Nuclear Fast attack sub home ported Pearl Harbor, HI.

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, which encompasses six awards, numerous campaign and unit awards, honor graduate of his class at Navy Dive School, Junior Sailor of the Year for 2008 aboard the USS Helena and Sailor of the Year 2015 aboard the USS Texas.

He has conducted numerous sea operations vital to national security, headed two critical flyaway missions, completed EMT certification, remotely controlled vehicle school and finished his bachelor’s degree.

Ober is also his ship’s Command Fitness Leader and Command Career Counselor responsible for 30 reenlistments.

Chief Ober is an expert electrician maintaining superior day-to-day standards, relentless commitment and total dedication to the ship’s mission. As a master diver, he has participated in underwater ship husbandry and repair for aircraft carriers, submarines and various surface ships.

Chief Ober comes from a Naval family, including his grandfather and uncle who severed in World War II.

He represents the very best of our nation and Voorhees.
