Junior class girls against senior class girls will challenge each other in a competitive game of flag football
The 2017 Washington Township High School Powder Puff Game will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 6 p.m. under the lights at the school’s Tom Brown Field. The spirited tradition that pits approximately 250 junior class girls against 250 senior class girls in a competitive game of flag football proves annually to be quite the spectacle, attracting hundreds of competitors and spectators alike. In the ultimate role reversal, approximately 100 junior and senior class boys embrace their role of cheerleaders, dressing the part and performing cheers and routines throughout the event.
WTHS teachers John Basile and Rich Zambino will serve as head coaches of the senior class team. Assistant coaches will include Natalie Taylor, Deanna Ettore, Alex McBride, Tanya Dargusch, Sean Giberson and Shannon Molloy. Teacher Alicia Boncardo will lead the junior class squad with the assistance of her colleagues Marc Boncardo, Zachary Bittner, Ryan Francisco, Kaitlyn Filipiak, Michael Wong, Simone Wong, Jeffrey Rearick, James Hallinan and Mike Shatzman.
The event raises funds for the school’s Project Graduation, an all-night, drug-and alcohol-free celebration that offers a safe alternative for graduates on graduation night.
Admission to the Powder Puff game is $3.
