The Lenape Regional High School District Board of Education gained a new member this week when Allison Eckel was sworn in as the board’s new Medford Township representative.

The board appointed Eckel to fill the vacancy left by former board member and Medford representative Dr. William Bisignano Jr., who retired from the board in September after 20 years of service.

In addition to her new position on the BOE, Eckel is also involved in education and youth activities with roles in the Medford Education Foundation, the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts of the United States.

Eckel is serving her second term as a board member with the Medford Education Foundation, which serves as a nonprofit organization working to provide additional funding and support for Medford’s K-8 school district while remaining independent of the district.

Eckel is also in her sixth year serving as a leader with the Girl Scouts, as well as serving on the committee for local Boy Scout Troop 48. In addition, she serves as an assistant adviser to the Garden State Council Venturing Officers Association and to Venture Crew 48.

Eckel said she enjoys working with young people to help them unlock their future potential, and she believes serving on the LRHSD BOE is way to continue that goal.

“I am honored to serve on the Lenape Regional School Board and see it as another way I can support our youth, to ensure they continue to have access to the top-notch educational opportunities available through all of our high schools,” Eckel said.

Eckel also serves her community through her work on Medford Township Economic Development Commission. Now in her second appointed term on the commission, Eckel has served her local business community by conducting a series of digital marketing seminars for businesses based in Medford.

“I truly enjoy participating in a nonprofit or civic space with a group of dedicated people to plan, manage, guide and serve a particular community or need,” Eckel said. “My parents raised me to believe that community service is a civic duty.”

In her professional life, Eckel works as a digital media strategist, with a specialty in nonprofits and small businesses. She serves as the director of e-commerce and co-founder of Opa’s Attic, a vintage, salvage and parts store in Moorestown.

Eckel also holds a bachelor’s of arts degree in geoscience from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., and a master’s of arts degree in writing from Emerson College in Boston.

Eckel has lived in Medford since 2005.

Speaking on behalf of the board, LRHSD BOE President Linda Eckenhoff said the board was pleased to welcome Eckel to its ranks.

“We realize that she has big shoes to fill on the retirement of Dr. Bisignano, but we know she is ready to accept the challenge,” Eckenhoff said.

The next meeting of the LRHSD BOE is scheduled for Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
