Awards were given for work completed during the 2016–17 school year.
The Washington Township High School student newspaper staff recently attended the Garden State Scholastic Press Association Fall Press Day, where the association announced the winners of their summer writing contest. Awards were given for work completed during the 2016–17 school year.
“The WTHS Patriot” took home nine individual awards in Division A (large schools). The winners included:
- Emily Faust (2017 graduate) — Third place, Reviews and Entertainment
- Casey Spencer (2017 graduate) — Honorable Mention, Reviews and Entertainment
- Jared Krause (2017 graduate) — Honorable Mention, Reviews and Entertainment
- Rob Minnick (2017 graduate) — Honorable Mention, Sports Writing
- Joe Campo (2017 graduate) — Honorable Mention, Layout and Design
- Theresa Arocena (2017 graduate) — Honorable Mention, Photography
- Jack Cahill (2017 graduate) — Honorable Mention, Newswriting
- Bria Lamonica (2017 graduate) — Honorable Mention, Newswriting
- Adrienne Brookstein (senior) — Honorable Mention, Layout and Design
In addition, “The Patriot” staff earned third place in New Jersey Distinguished Journalism Award for Division A.
