Janet and John Khanlian explain why Lauren Romano is a qualified addition to Moorestown’s Board of Education.
In addition to selecting among individuals running for governor, the New Jersey state legislature and county offices on Election Day, Moorestown voters will also have the opportunity to vote to fill seats on our Board of Education. Unlike the other offices on the ballot, school board members are chosen in a non-partisan election contest.
We’d like to urge your support for BOE candidate Lauren Romano whom we’ve known for many years. She was a classmate of our oldest son David, first at Moorestown High School and later when they both attended Elizabethtown College in Pa.
Lauren comes from a family with long and deep roots in our town being the granddaughter of legendary Moorestown homebuilder Steward Maines, and she herself is a K-12 “product” of our local school system.
Lauren is also the mother of two children currently in the district: a daughter attending William Allen Middle and a son at the MHS. Furthermore, she has had an 18-year career as an educational professional having begun teaching college prep social studies and AP history classes and now working as a special education teacher. This background gives her a unique perspective on the educational needs of ALL our children.
Lauren is committed to maintaining our district’s high quality standards and strong reputation. However, she still intends to be a fiscally responsible steward of the budget and the spending of our tax dollars, especially since Moorestown’s residents (unlike those in some other districts that receive considerable aid dollars from Trenton) bear such a high portion of the overall cost of educating our children.
We feel that Lauren Romano will be a most worthy and qualified addition to our school board. Her background and experience allows her to be sensitive and responsive to the interests ALL the key stakeholders in our township’s public schools: the students, the parents, the educators and, of course, the resident taxpayers.
Don’t forget to vote on November 7th!
