The event raises funds for the foundation to support needs of the police department outside of its yearly budget.
The Evesham Township Police Foundation has been providing material and financial aid for the police department since 2015.
When the department has needs or projects that fall outside of its normal budget, the independent, nonprofit police foundation often steps in and bridges the gaps.
The foundation supports the department throughout the year, whether it’s helping the department’s Junior and Citizen Police Academies, assisting with community policing events, providing funds toward the department’s annual National Night Out, purchasing a dog or equipment for the department’s K-9 unit or even funding the department’s annual Shop With a Cop holiday event that provides less fortunate families in town a free chance to shop for presents for family members.
“Everybody thinks Marlton is a rich suburb, but it has people hurting just like everyone else,” said Bill Gelernt, president of the Evesham Township Police Foundation. “Last year we helped more than 70 Marlton families who wouldn’t have had gifts for the holidays. The look on those kids’ faces is always priceless.”
Yet the constant support the foundation offers the police department and township has a real cost, which is why the foundation is once again inviting residents to support the foundation and its efforts at its Evesham Township Police Foundation Annual Fundraiser on Nov. 4.
Set to take place at the Indian Cultural Center along Route 73, the event will last from 6 to 10 p.m. and give residents a chance to enjoy food and fun while supporting the foundation.
The event will feature music from DiNardo Brothers Entertainment DJ services, along with food and drinks, all for a $30 ticket. Attendees will also have the chance to partake in raffles, gift baskets and door prizes.
According to Gelernt, last year’s event exceeded expectations for the foundation, and this year supporters are hoping to raise even more funds.
“Also, there are no administrative costs with the foundation, so 100 percent of the funds we raise are used to help the needs of the police department and the citizens of Evesham Township. Every person with the foundation is a volunteer.”
According to Gelernt, last year the foundation had a large turnout for the event, so those interested are asked to get their tickets for the event as soon as possible.
For more information about the event or to purchase a ticket, contact Evesham Police Lt. Bruce Higbee at [email protected]. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
The Evesham Township Police Foundation is an IRS recognized nonprofit organization, meaning any donations to the group are fully tax deductible.
