The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Cherry Hill High School West beginning at 7 p.m.
New Jersey wrestler “The Jersey Hurricane” Mick Bronson and BRAWL will honor the memory of former WWE superstar “Iron” Mike Sharpe on Oct. 28 in Cherry Hill. Bronson Family Promotions will be hosting the first ever BRAWL “Iron” Mike Sharpe Memorial Show at Cherry Hill West High School at 7 p.m.
Known throughout the world as Canada’s greatest athlete, Iron Mike Sharpe could be seen on television every week taking on the toughest competition. Sharpe began his wrestling career in Canada during the 1970’s. He had a successful run in Mid-South Wrestling winning several championships. Sharpe also wrestled in Japan where he teamed up with Hulk Hogan. He would go on to join the WWF in 1983 where he was a mainstay until 1995. A big man with a booming voice, Iron Mike Sharpe was as strong as an ox. Early in his career, Sharpe injured his forearm and started wearing an armband to protect his injury. He would continue to wear this signature protective armband for the remainder of his career.
In 1996 “The Jersey Hurricane” Mick Bronson enrolled in the Iron Mike Sharpe School of Professional Wrestling in Asbury Park. This was a beginning of a friendship that would last a lifetime. In 1998 with Iron Mike’s support, The Jersey Hurricane Mick Bronson founded BRAWL and appointed Iron Mike Sharpe the first commissioner. Sharpe took the job seriously and those who did not comply with his wishes felt the wrath of Iron Mike. In addition to his duties as commissioner, Sharpe would often do commentary for BRAWL matches. While still a student at the school in Asbury, Mick Bronson asked Iron Mike if he could wear an armband to honor his friend and teacher. Bronnson continues to go to the ring with Iron Mike’s signature armband as a tribute. In 2016 BRAWL was deeply saddened by the passing of former commissioner “Iron” Mike Sharpe. To the BRAWL organization, “Iron” Mike was much more than a commissioner. He was a teacher and friend. He was family.
Tickets are $12 and will be available at the door. Most of the wrestlers on the card are former trainers and students of Sharpe’s from his wrestling school including Bobby Piper, The Atomic Dog, “The Jersey Hurricane” Mick Bronson, The Freak, Magic, The Orphan, Slayer and many others.
