The arrest took place on Oct. 14. Police say the gun was wrapped in black tape to give the appearance it was a toy gun.
The following information is on file with the Evesham Township Police Department:
On Oct. 14, an Evesham Officer was actively patrolling inside the department’s Data Driven Approach to Crime and Traffic Safety Zone when the officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 73 for a moving violation.
During the stop, police say the officer observed a passenger allegedly attempting to gain access to the vehicle’s center console.
According to police, the passenger, who was later found to be a wanted person, refused to exit the vehicle as ordered by the officer. The passenger then allegedly resisted officers when being removed from the car. Once outside the car, police arrested the male, and during a subsequent search of the vehicle, police say officers allegedly located a loaded handgun in the center console. According to police, the alleged gun was wrapped in black tape to give the appearance it was a toy gun.
Arrested:
A male, age 26, of Camden City, was charged with third-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, third-degree certain persons unable to possess a firearm, fourth-degree resisting arrest and a disorderly persons offense for possession of marijuana. He was lodged in the Burlington County Jail with no bail.

Drawing on the deterrent of highly visible traffic enforcement and the knowledge that crime often involves the use of motor vehicles, the goal of DDACTS is to reduce the incidence of crime, crashes and traffic violations in Evesham Township.
