Letters from the Library

There are numerous events for fun in Fall.

By Margaret Lafferty

The leaves are beginning to change colors, and Halloween will soon be upon us. Little hobgoblins will be knocking on doors in search of treats. Let’s hope there won’t be any tricks!

In the spirit of Halloween, the BCLS Brewers’ Book Club will be meeting at Lower Forge Brewery on Main Street in Medford on October 19 at 6:30. Have you read a horror book or collection of stories? Come ready to discuss all the gruesome details.

Keeping with our October theme, there will be a Monster Make-n-Take all day all week beginning October 23rd through the 27th. The week will be capped off with a special Halloween Story time with Mr. Rick at 10:30 on the 27th. Join him for some spooky stories and fun shared with our 3 to 6-year-old guests.

Mr. Rick will host our 6 to 12-year-old guests on October 25th at 4:00 for an iPad delivered, big-screen reading of one of the greatest Thor stories of all time: Walt Simonson’s The Midgard Serpent. Feel free to come dressed in your best Asgardian or Marvel superhero garb to hear if the monster is defeated.

And just in time for the big night itself, on October 30th at 6:00 the Pinelands Library will be showing Classic Horror Theater: Bride of Frankenstein. This 1935 classic is one of the few horror sequels thought to be better than the original, Frankenstein. Dr. Frankenstein and his monster have both survived. The doctor wants to end his experiments, but the evil Dr. Pretorius forces him to create a female companion for the monster.

How secure is your information? October is National Cyber Security Information Month. Join Joe Calloway of JLC Associates as he covers topics including free security checkups, Malware and Phishing, identity theft and fraud, and securing your home network. Attendees will receive a Certificate of Appreciation. The program is free, however USB drives with the presentation information and additional links will be available for $10.

Until next time, keep turning those pages and keep your eyes open for those Trick or Treaters.
