Sixth annual “Trunk or Treat” scheduled for Oct. 28

The COW Project, FutureActs Clubs, WTEA and WT Rotary to sponsor sixth annual “Trunk or Treat” at Washington Lake Park

The Washington Township COW Project, the district’s middle and elementary school FutureActs clubs, Washington Township Education Association and the Washington Township Rotary will team to host the sixth annual “Trunk or Treat,” a community event on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Washington Lake Park. The event will be hosted rain or shine.

As in years past, and in advance of Veterans Day, the extravaganza will benefit local veterans through the Second Wind Dreams Program out of the Vineland Veterans Memorial Home. Proceeds from Trunk or Treat will be used in part to fund the dreams of four selected veterans.

In addition to actual trick-or-treating in a safe, parking lot environment, children who attend also will be treated to a disc jockey, a mini “student spooktacular” event and games.

No pre-registration is required. Decorated cars may begin arriving at 3:15 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to make a $5 donation per vehicle and are asked to bring one bag of candy for each person in their party. After the first 400 vehicles have arrived, additional participants will be directed to park in spare lots and may “walk in” to the designated Trunk or Treat area. The WTEA and COW Project will be supplementing the candy supply through a $2,000 donation in anticipation of the 400-car turnout.

Also in conjunction with Trunk or Treat, district students in grade kindergarten through eight who donate at least one pound of candy will be credited with one hour of community service. The candy can be returned to the main office of the student’s school from Nov. 1 through Nov. 10. It is anticipated approximately 1,000 pounds of candy will be returned to the district. Each of the FutureActs clubs at the six elementary schools then will lend their support to the cause by personalizing individual bags of candy that will be distributed to area organizations, including the Ronald McDonald House in Camden.
