Veterans Day Breakfat at Indian Mills Elementary School set for Nov. 8

The students of Indian Mills School (IMS), in conjunction with the Shamong Township Education Association will be hosting a Veterans Day Breakfast from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the IMS cafeteria.

On Wednesday Nov. 8, 2017, the students of Indian Mills School (IMS), in conjunction with the Shamong Township Education Association will be hosting a Veterans Day Breakfast from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the IMS cafeteria, at 112 Indian Mills Road in Shamong. All military veterans of Shamong, whether they have family members attending IMS or not, are invited to take part in this event in their honor. This is an open invitation for our veterans so our students can spend a little time thanking them for their service and provide them an opportunity to share a special moment with friends and make some new friends at the same time.

The township’s Education Association is supporting this event through its Project Pride Program, an initiative that funds projects to promote the exceptional spirit and citizenship of our schools and our students. Two of IMS’s teachers, Kerry Haines and Karen Clementi, are the catalysts for this event as a way of thanking those who have sacrificed through the years for our liberties. This is just one small way we can show our pride for those in the Township who have worn the uniform in defense of our country. In past years, students have written letters to soldiers, sent cards and letters to Veterans Homes, and had veterans speak before classes. This year, they wanted to do something unique that would put an exclamation point on the annual celebration of Veteran’s Day with a personal touch. With these objectives in mind, the idea of a special breakfast was born.
