Burlington County Sheriff’s Office announces 51 arrested in child support sweep

Between those arrested, more Than $1,209,088 is owed in court-ordered child support.

Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield announced today the results of a recent child support raid, saying the sweep — which was part of a statewide effort — resulted in the arrest of 51 individuals in Burlington County who owed $1,209,088 in court-ordered child support.

“With the success of our most recent child support raid, we are sending a strong message that parents must take responsibility for their kids,” Stanfield said. “Child support isn’t just an issue for the children who rely on it, and the parents who owe it, it’s everyone’s issue. When child support goes unpaid, the cost of care often falls on taxpayer funded state and county agencies.”

In Burlington County, the sweep involved assistance and support from the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department, Pemberton Township Police Department and Willingboro Township Police Department.

Those arrested included individuals from Magnolia, Pemberton, Lumberton, Willingboro, Riverton, Riverside, Burlington, Egg Harbor, Pennsauken, Edgewater Park, Browns Mills, Beverly, Evehsam, Glassboro, Buena, Washington Township, Long Beach Township, Bridgeton, North Plainfield, Ewing, Hainesport, Delran, Maplewood, Trenton, West Berlin, Bordentown, Long Branch, Northfield, Westampton and Newark.

“This operation was conducted to remind parents of the importance of making regular child support payments and hopefully renew their commitment to do the right thing,” Stanfield said. “I want to thank our law enforcement partners for their excellent assistance in this important law enforcement operation.”
