The Music and Mind Workshop will Focus on the Health Benefits of Music
They say music has the power to influence not only our minds, but also our health and well-being. The upcoming Medford Leas Music and the Mind Workshop will explore these and the many other benefits of music in two workshops during the month of October.
The first Music and Mind Workshop will take place on Friday, Oct. 13, at the Lumberton Campus Community Center, at 135 Woodside Drive in Lumberton. The second Music and Mind Workshop will take place on Friday, Oct. 20, at the Medford Campus in the Holly Room. Both sessions run from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and are free of charge. The registration deadline for these events is Friday, Oct. 6.
Guests are invited to join workshop leaders, Gary Stride and Danielle Boyd, in learning about the different ways music can affect everyday life and contribute to a healthy lifestyle.
Gary Stride is the Therapeutic Recreation Director at Medford Leas. He has more than 40 years of experience in working with older adults. Stride is responsible for helping to develop the Brain Fitness program that earned Medford Leas the Leading Age New Jersey’s award for “Innovation of the Year.”
Danielle Boyd is a Medford Leas Music Therapist known for her talent and passion for music. Stride and Boyd will take guests on a creative journey using their expertise and artistic ideas.
It is scientifically proven that even before birth, we are listening and embedding music and sounds. Music has an extraordinary impact on the mind, body and soul of humans, and can activate emotions, and even be associated with memories and dreams. Medford Leas is diving into these theories through a workshop that will provide participants with the knowledge as to how music can improve personal well-being.
