Burlington County Library to host 20th Annual MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival on Oct. 1

Residents can join more than 100,000 film lovers from around the world to view the finalists and cast votes.

The Burlington County Library invites local residents to join more than 100,000 film lovers from around the world to view the 20th Annual MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival finalists and cast their votes for the Best Film and Best Actor awards.

The library will host a special screening of the 10 finalists on Sun., Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. in the library auditorium in Westampton.

Admission is free and registration is requested.

According to the library, MANHATTAN SHORT is the only event of its kind, as the finalists are being screened simultaneously around the world — at more than 250 venues across six continents — during a one-week period from Sept. 28 to Oct. 8.

At each screening, audience members will be handed cards to cast their votes for the Best Film and Best Actor awards.

This year’s MANHATTAN SHORT Final 10 represent a range of film genres, including comedy, drama, horror, sci-fi, animation, and martial arts.

The finalists hail from nine countries with films from Syria, Latvia and Georgia representing their respective countries for the first time in this event.

Two short films also hail from Spain, the only country with multiple Final 10 selections.

According to the library, a record 1,615 films were submitted from 75 countries, testimony to the enduring vibrancy and creativity of short films.

The final 10 are “Do No Harm” (New Zealand), “Behind” (Spain), “Fickle Bickle” (USA), “Hope Dies Last” (United Kingdom), “Perfect Day” (Spain), “Just Go!” (Latvia), “Mare Nostrum” (Syria), “Viola, Franca” (Italy), “In a Nutshell” (Switzerland) and “8 Minutes” (Georgia).

All final 10 short films will become Oscar-qualified, meaning they will be automatically eligible for an Academy Award nomination, by screening for a week at Arena Cinelounge in Hollywood from Sept. 22 to Sept. 28.

The library invites locals to join the worldwide audience and become an instant film critic, be the judge and cast votes for the best film and best actor on Oct. 1.

Some or all of the films may contain adult content and language not suitable for children.

Votes will be forwarded to MANHATTAN SHORT headquarters and the winners will be announced at www.ManhattanShort.com on Oct 9.
