Studies show children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifelong learning.
The Margaret E. Heggan Free Public Library works to ensure materials are available in the library for students’ research projects and homework assignments. There is always a librarian available to assist students. In addition, the library provides many other resources and services that can help students.
• Internet Access: The library has computers available with internet access, printing, and Microsoft Office software.
• Databases: The library has many reliable databases that are available for student’s research and skill building. These can be accessed in the library or from home with a library card.
• Language Learning: The library offers two online language learning resources that can be accessed from anywhere. Mango Languages offers lessons in 72 languages and 19 ESL courses. Rosetta Stone features 30 languages.
• American Girl Dolls and Museum Passes: Adult library card holders can check out one of five American Girl dolls that the library has available. The library also has passes available to 20 local museums and attractions that can be checked out and used for free admission.
• Fun Stuff: There are always lots of fun things going on at the library for children of all ages. You can view the full calendar of events at www.hegganlibrary.org. We also have a large collection of movies, music and audiobooks, as well as access to downloadable ebooks, audiobooks, music, movies, comics and magazines.
