Burlington County Sheriff’s Office announces upcoming, free child safety seat checks

Officials are offering checks during night hours at the County Complex and “On the Road” checkpoints.

Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield has announced that her department will be taking their child safety seat checks on the road by offering checkpoints in multiple municipalities to extend services to more residents.

“In addition to the checkpoints we hold at the County Administration Building each Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Sheriff’s Department has additional checkpoints planned for this year throughout the county,” Stanfield said. “Additionally, the night hours at the County Administration Building will be resuming from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Our goal is to provide busy parents this free service with additional locations and more flexible hours.”

The schedule for checks includes:

Saturday, Sept. 9, Masonville Fire Station 361, 105 Masonville-Centerton Rd., Mt. Laurel from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 10, Delran Fire House, 1020 S Chester Ave., Delran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 16, Medford Lakes Fire/EMS, 10 Stokes Rd., Medford Lakes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 7, ShopRite Mt. Laurel, 892 Union Mill Rd., Mt. Laurel from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“Our Child Passenger Safety Seat Program conducts hands-on training for parents and caregivers to ensure that their children’s safety seats are properly installed,” Stanfield said. “The Sheriff’s Department Child Safety Seat Team consists of State Certified Technicians who provide a one-on-one learning experience and also check child seats for safety concerns and recalls.”

Stanfield said that according to New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death of children older than the age of six months in the United States.

“Additionally, three out of every four children in child safety seats are not properly secured, or even worse, not restrained at all,” Stanfield said. “The proper use of child car seats is the most effective way to protect children in the event of a motor vehicle crash and I hope our resident’s will take advantage of this service.”
