A new event, called Games for Grants, will allow non-golfers to get in on the fun at the foundation’s 2017 Champions for Children Golf Outing.
The Cherry Hill Education Foundation wants more than just golfers to come to its next big fundraiser at Pennsauken Country Club on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
The foundation’s 2017 Champions for Children Golf Outing will be paired with a new event named Games for Grants. This will be held in conjunction with the golf outing.
Cherry Hill Education Foundation President Eleanor Stofman said Games for Grants was created to get a wider variety of community members to come to the fundraiser.
“It was an attempt to reach out to a broader community, not only golfers,” Stofman said. “We felt if we offered something in the afternoon while the golfers were on the golf course, people would want to participate.”
While golfers are out on the course during the afternoon, non-golfers can play a variety of games inside the country club’s dining room. The foundation will provide copies of its board game, Cherry Hill-Opoly, as well as decks of playing cards. Participants in Games for Grants are also invited to bring their own games to play.
When the golfers come off the course at 4:30 p.m., Games for Grants participants will join them for dinner, raffles and the presentation of awards.
“We’ve been getting a very nice response for it so far,” Stofman said.
The foundation also made a small change to the golf tournament this year. CHEF is now calling the event the Champions for Children Golf Outing to tie the name of the event in with the foundation’s mission.
“We wanted to give more recognition to what we do and why we have fundraisers,” Stofman said.
The cost to golf is $175, while the cost for Games for Grants or to just participate in the dinner is $60. Proceeds from both the golf outing and Games for Grants will support CHEF, a nonprofit organization providing grants to benefit the Cherry Hill school community. In the last decade since it was revived in 2007, the foundation has raised more than $1 million. The list of grants the foundations has awarded is extensive and ranges from funding for programs at a variety of schools to providing technology such as Chromebooks and iPads.
Beyond being a fundraising endeavor, Stofman said the event is also a way to bring residents to meet school officials and interact with them.
“It’s a way to involve the golfers from the community as well as meeting some of our school personnel,” Stofman said.
Registration and lunch for the Champions for Children Golf Outing begins at 11 a.m., with a shotgun start to the tournament beginning at noon. Games for Grants will run from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Participants from both events will come together for dinner at 4:30 p.m.
While the foundation asks participants to return registration forms by Sept. 1, Stofman said community members can continue to sign up into September. For more information and to print a registration form, visit www.cherryhilleducationfoundation.com.
