The Haddonfield Board of Education’s Thursday, Aug. 24 meeting confirmed that despite ongoing construction, schools will open, as expected, on Monday, Sept. 11. The district’s architect, Steve Becica, provided an update regarding the district’s ongoing construction and assured all of those in attendance in the Haddonfield Middle School Library that schools are projected to open on time. By the end of August, approximately 23 percent of the district’s overall construction will have been completed, Becica said.

The Haddonfield 11-year-old Little League squad did a lot of celebrating this summer. Besides winning district and sectional titles, this group of 13 youngsters also accomplished something that is extremely difficult to do — earn a spot in the state championship game. Over the 67-year span the Haddonfield Little League program has been around, it has only happened twice, with the most recent occasion taking place Aug. 5–10 at the Mt. Ephraim Little League field.

Commissioners working to mitigate construction chaos

Haddonfield’s Board of Commissioners last week passed a pair of resolutions intended to ease the residential impact of local construction. The commissioners unanimously passed a resolution to temporarily change parking regulations on streets surrounding Haddonfield Memorial High School while the school undergoes construction. Under the resolution, the borough will issue temporary parking permits to residents on the affected streets. In line with talk of construction, the commissioners also passed a resolution adopting a policy for construction fencing to protect borough-owned trees.

A ‘new beginning’ for HCC and its director

Haddonfield Child Care’s new executive director, Donna Marie Clancy, said the role is a new beginning for her and Haddonfield Child Care as well following the departure of long-time executive director Denise Sellers who retired after 31 years leading the program. Established in 1985, Haddonfield Child Care is a parent-run nonprofit that provides child care services before and after school for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. Clancy said she knows it’s hard to transition, but she’s excited for the opportunity to step into the role.
