Mindie Weiner, a true volunteer in the Borough of Palmyra

“I’d have to say I have made small career volunteering in the Borough of Palmyra.”

For some people, volunteer work may not be at the top of their list of activities. For others, they enjoy the feeling of making a difference not only to others but also in their community.

Mindie Weiner, 44, is one of those people who enjoys making a difference and leaving her footprint on a project. The Philadelphia native, who is celebrating her 10th year of living in the borough, is active on numerous committees and groups in the community.

“I’d have to say I have made a small career in volunteering in the Borough of Palmyra,” Weiner said. “I originally began on PTA when my daughter was in kindergarten and since then it’s blossomed into several other groups.”

Weiner has also helped as treasurer of the Pal-Riv Baseball Association, is a current member of Borough Council, a member of helping construct the Community Center Program Board, as well as treasurer and program director at one time, treasurer of the Palmyra High School Drama Club, and the Palmyra Halloween Parade Committee.

She even offers her time at the weekly farmers market, which hosts a variety of local vendors every Thursday outside of Borough Hall.

When asked about her greatest accomplishment in serving the community, Weiner took no time at all to answer.

“Helping at the Community Center was huge to me,” Weiner said. “I was able to help them earn a 501-C status, and create some new programs which now has been developed into even broader activities for the members of the community.”

The most fun Weiner has is on the Halloween Parade Committee, which helps think of new and improved ideas for October’s annual Halloween parade. Weiner stated the program “needed some love” and joined with some friends and has stuck with it ever since.

Outside of her busy calendar of meetings, Weiner has a variety of activities and hobbies to enjoy.

“I love hanging with my peeps firstly,” Weiner said. “I also enjoy gardening and being outdoors, especially at the farmers market each and every week.”

As a whole since she moved here, Weiner has noticed the borough change positively. Local events have given residents more to do, while they continue to keep that small-town atmosphere intact.

“Following a weekly market or the Halloween parade, I feel like I’m flying high,” Weiner said. “You see the effort that you put in and it’s just cool to see a lot of the community come and support in so many different ways.”
