Cherry Hill East girls’ cross country 2017 season preview
Last season: Cherry Hill East finished in fifth place at the South Jersey Group IV meet last year, with Sarah Pierce leading the way with a first place finish. Their finish allowed the Cougars to advance to the state championship meet. At the NJSIAA Group IV Championship, Cherry Hill East finished in 12th place, with freshman Grace Yoon finishing in second place in the race. Yoon and Pierce both represented Cherry Hill East at the Meet of Champions.
Returning and new runners: Pierce will be the Cougars’ top returning runner as a junior this year. Also returning is junior Dani Lazarus, a 27th place finisher at sectionals last year. Erin Krassan and Miranda Russ will also run for Cherry Hill East this fall. One new face to watch out for this season is Isabella Zebrowski.
Key meets: The Cougars will be in three big meets in October beginning with the South Jersey Open at Delsea Regional High School on Oct. 1. Cherry Hill East will also take part in Shore Coaches Invitational in Holmdel, the same location of the state championship meet and Meet of Champions. Another big meet is the Camden County Open on Oct. 13.
Season outlook: Head coach Anthony Maniscalco noted this year’s team is young, but expectations aren’t being tempered. The Cougars hope to advance to states for the second straight year.
