Haddonfield United Methodist Church held a reception on Sunday, Aug. 13 honoring the return home of long-time Haddonfield resident Kirk Peterson. Peterson was a long-time resident and civic advocate known to everyone by his nickname “Kirk.”

Having lived in Haddonfield for over five decades, Peterson was a notable part of the local community, adding his views at municipal meetings and drawing plans for parks and walkways throughout the borough. Peterson was known for playing piano in many public places including the Mabel Kay House Senior Center and in the United Methodist Church of Haddonfield, where he has been a member most of his life.

Peterson was also responsible for having rescued many town artifacts, including the antique lantern that graces the Haddonfield Historical Society on Kings Highway, which features a plaque in his honor.

Following a diabetic episode in 2015, Peterson’s ability to return home to Haddonfield was not clear and his future as a Haddonfield resident was unclear. Through the efforts of good neighbors, Peterson is back, and his church and immediate friends held a reception in his honor to welcome him home.
