Kennedy Health opens new Lung Nodule Center

The center will provide care for patients diagnosed with lung nodules

The Kennedy Cancer Center, a member of the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Network at Jefferson, has opened a multidisciplinary Lung Nodule Center at its Washington Township location.

The new Lung Nodule Center at Kennedy provides continuation of care for high-risk patients who have been diagnosed with a lung nodule. Lung nodules are defined as abnormal spots or lesions on a lung scan. High-risk patients include individuals age 55 to 77 who have a tobacco-smoking history of at least 30 pack-years (meaning they smoked the equivalent of a pack of cigarettes a day for 30 years, or about two packs per day for 15 years); as well as those who are either currently smoking or have quit less than 15 years ago.

Kennedy’s multidisciplinary team consists of pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, nurse navigators, certified tobacco treatment specialists and certified medical assistants.

Kennedy’s Lung Nodule team provides state-of-the-art medical care for lung nodules. Kennedy’s team of experts will diagnose the severity of nodules through a unique approach involving detailed evaluation and discussion of imaging results and patient health history.

Benefits of Kennedy’s new Lung Nodule Center include: specialized nurse navigators to expedite the process, alleviate barriers, schedule appointments and monitor follow-up care; high-tech nodule evaluation; physician experts, who closely monitor nodules; a comprehensive approach to nodule treatment and care; identification of lung cancer in its earliest stages; and access to smoking cessation counseling with a certified tobacco treatment specialist.

By providing patients with personalized and compassionate care, Kennedy’s advanced approach allows all services to be provided in a single visit. Patients considered to be at high-risk for lung cancer should talk to their primary care physician about referral to the Lung Nodule Center.

The Kennedy Cancer Center is a designated Lung Cancer Screening Center through the American College of Radiology and a Lung Cancer Alliance Screening Center of Excellence. For more information about the Lung Nodule Center, call (856) 218–5324.
