Police say they recently received reports of individuals posing as PSE&G employees in town.
The following information is on file with the Mt. Laurel Police Department:
At 4:40 p.m. on July 25, Mt. Laurel Police responded to two calls from residents in the Brittany Commons Development near Larchmont Boulevard and Route 38 for reports of two men posing as PSE&G employees.
According to police, a resident on Aberdeen Drive stated that two men wearing reflective work vests came to her door and said they were from PSE&G.
Police say they men said they wanted to talk to her about high energy usage and asked to see her bill. The resident refused, and the men asked if they could come inside her home, but the resident refused once again. According to police, the two men left when a neighbor began to approach.
Police say a similar incident also occurred on Dunbarton Road. Police say the suspects were described as two males wearing reflective vests and carrying what appeared to be a folder containing paperwork from PSE&G.
According to police, they were last seen leaving the area in a tan van and could not be located by the police.
If faced with a situation like this, police advise residents to not allow anyone into their home if they feel suspicious, unsure or confused as to why the visitors are there.
Police also advise residents to call the police as soon as an incident occurs, as doing so gives the police a much better chance of finding the individuals involved.
According to police, PSE&G advises residents follow the following tips when they encounter suspicious activity that involves PSE&G’s name or likeness:
– Ask to see the photo identification badge from suspicious individuals who claim to be PSE&G employees or PSE&G contractors.
– Using the phone number listed on a PSE&G bill or the PSE&G website, contact PSE&G to verify the identity of PSE&G employees or PSE&G contractors.
-Call the police when any suspicious activity occurs.
