New York pop artist visits Burlington County Library to showcase work and offer art workshops

Michael Albert will present two special collage workshops to children and teens interested in trying out his pop art style.

As part of his summer-long tour of nine states, New York artist and author Michael Albert will visit the Burlington County Library in August to showcase his work and present two special collage workshops to children and teens interested in trying out his pop art style.

Albert’s retrospective exhibition of modern pop art spanning nearly 30 years will be on display in the library throughout the month of August. In addition, he will present his “Modern Pop Art Experience” program and cereal box collage workshops at the library on Aug. 17. The first session, set for 2 p.m., is geared for children ages 7 to 12, followed by a 4 p.m. session geared for teens ages 13 to 18. Registration for both workshops is required.

The author of the autobiography “An Artist’s America,” Albert is well known for the collages he makes from the printed packages of famous consumer brands, including his favorite products — cereal boxes. He is currently on a summer-long “Pop Art Tour” with stops at more than 90 venues, including libraries, museums and festivals in New Jersey, New Hampshire, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania. The artist is looking forward to sharing his unique form of collage and upcycled art with students and art lovers of all ages in Burlington County.

During Albert’s two-hour library workshops for children and teens, he will discuss and showcase samples of his work, including his exhibit and a selection of his posters. Afterward, participants will create their own collages in the artist’s style using the same printed cardboard packages he likes to use. In addition, each participant will receive a special gift, one of Albert’s signed, self-published limited edition prints, compliments of the artist.
