Excessive Heat Warning in effect in Washington Township

Temperatures on both Thursday and Friday are expected to reach the mid-90s.

Washington Township residents should brace for some very hot and humid weather over the next two days as the National Weather Service in Mt. Holly has issued an Excessive Heat Warning. The warning will be in effect from noon on Thursday through 8 p.m. on Friday.

Temperatures on both Thursday and Friday are expected to top out in the mid-90s. It will feel even hotter outside as the humidity could cause heat indexes to climb in the 98 to 103 degree range both days. Even during the overnight hours, temperatures are expected to remain in the 70s.

The excessive heat is hazardous for anyone who works outdoors and could have a negative impact on susceptible individuals such as the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions.

Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors. Those who work outside are advised to reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening, wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. Anyone overcome by the heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. In the event of heat stroke, call 9–1–1.
