The first meeting will be held on Thursday, July 20, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Burlington County Agricultural Center Farmhouse.
Burlington County Freeholder Linda Hughes has announced that the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders, in partnership with Ashley Addiction Treatment, will be hosting a series of monthly Parent & Family Connection meetings to share “support, wisdom, and perspective to help” cope with the effects of addiction.
“Coming off the success of our first forum, we want to continue bringing members of the community together to address the addiction epidemic while providing support for those affected,” Hughes said. “These meetings will offer a safe and professionally-facilitated resource for parents, guardians, and other family members that have a child or other loved one in recovery or in active addiction.”
The first addiction support group meeting will be held on Thursday, July 20, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Burlington County Agricultural Center Farmhouse, located at 500 Centerton Road in Moorestown.
“By providing an intimate environment where residents can connect with resources and other members of the community, it is our goal to continue to end the stigma that surrounds addiction,” Hughes said. “We want everyone to know that if you are battling addiction in Burlington County there are resources and support available for you.”
Hughes said the meetings will help navigate sensitive topics such as supporting children without enabling them, focusing on personal recovery and signs that a child is using again.
“Other topics include recovery support and resources outside of the Ashley Parent & Family Connection group, what to do if your child stops going to recovery-based activities, and how to handle a crisis,” Hughes said.
The meeting will be facilitated by Rich Sockriter, MS, LPC, LCADC. Sockriter is a licensed professional counselor and licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor with over 25 years of clinical and executive experience in inpatient, outpatient, and community health.
The Parent & Family Connection Meetings are free and open to public.
Meetings will be held on the third Thursday of each month.
