My goodness, summer is halfway over. Where has the time gone? Before we know it, our shopping will turn from water toys to school supplies.

Our Summer Reading Program 2017 is in full swing and many of our younger readers have begun to earn their rewards. For children 5 and under, prizes are awarded based on the number of books read. Older children earn rewards based on the number of hours they have spent reading. It’s not too late to join the program and win. Ready, set…read!

Our Paws to Read friends are back at the Pinelands library! Muffie is a loveable Pug mix and Gage is a handsome Rhodesian Ridgeback and they both love to have a good story read to them. Children are welcome to practice their reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to either dog. Muffie will be at the library on Friday, July 21 and August 18 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Gage will be there on Wednesday, August 23 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Please sign up for a 15 minute slot.

Don’t forget that international and award-winning magician Joe Holiday will be bringing his Reading Rocks Magic Show to the Pinelands Library on June 20 at 10:30 am. He will use his unique style of magic, comedy and music with audience participation to showcase classical children’s literature.

Early August brings us two days of fun activities. On the first at 6 p.m.Page to Pixel: Dark Tower, based on Stephen King’s Dark Tower epic. Learn more of Roland, the last of the Gunslingers of Gilead, Jake, and the importance of the Tower. This is for teens and adults. On the second at 3:30 p.m. Mr. Dennis will be leading Let Your Imagination Fly: Making Paper Airplanes for our 6 to 12-year olds. He teaches how to create a variety of paper airplanes and once constructed, a contest will be held to test which plane flies the farthest.

Until next time, keep turning those pages and watch out for children on vacation who are out and about having summer fun!
