Washington Township residents were recognized by council this week for leadership, service and academics. As well, Fourth of July celebration awards were received by students for the upcoming parade’s t-shirt design and Little Miss and Mister Parade titles. The Board of Education also acknowledges the heartfelt service project created by Orchard Valley Middle School students in honor of their ill teacher. Council recognizes Eagle Scout, academic honors at meeting
Mayor Joann Gattinelli and council recognized community members for outstanding achievements, academic honors and participation in the Fourth of July Parade at last week’s meeting. Washington Township High School 2015 graduate James Bloemker was commended for his leadership within the community as he recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, while Robert Minnick, a recent Washington Township High School graduate, was recognized as a recipient of Comcast NBCUniversal’s Leaders and Achievers scholarship. As well, Nicole Geaneotes’s t-shirt design won the Fourth of July parade contest, while Grayson Hull and Kenzie Heil were chosen as Little Miss and Mister Pararde.
Custom sweatshirts distributed to Kennedy dialysis patients
The South Jersey-based Pris-Zippity Fund, managed through the Kennedy Health Care Foundation, recently presented 100 custom-made sweatshirts to patients of the Kennedy Dialysis Center in Voorhees. Pris-Zippity sweatshirts are designed to allow port access during treatment by way of zippers, which enables dialysis patients to stay warm. Founded in 2015 by Washington Township resident Phyllis White, Pris-Zippity has donated more than 200 sweatshirts to Kennedy dialysis patients since then.
Board of Education recognizes students’ service, approves new WTHS executive assistant principal
At last week’s meeting, the Board of Education recognized eight Orchard Valley Middle School students for their compassion and community service, while also naming the new Washington Township High School executive assistant principal. Eight Orchard Valley Middle School students witnessed who would have been their eighth-grade English teacher this year, Travis Martin, fall into a serious health crisis. To benefit him and his family, the students created and sold more than 200 cookbooks, titles “The Loop Cookbook.” The Board of Education also approved the promotion on John Saverase as the new Washington Township High School executive assistant principal, taking the place of Jonathan Strout who will be moving to Calif.
Fourth of July festivities around the region
Check out the array of events and activities being offered around our region this Independence Day. The Fourth of July parade is back and will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Washington Township High School 11/12 parking lot. The parade will be followed by a fireworks show at 9 p.m., shot from the Washington Township High School Complex. WTHS Football Stadium seating will not be available during the show.
