Weekly Roundup: Evesham school resource officers reduced, LRHSD BOE approves teacher contracts

The Evesham BOE also tabled a lease agreement with the Y.A.L.E. School for rental of Evans Elementary until a special July meeting.

This week the Evesham BOE tabled approving the lease for rental of Evans Elementary School to Y.A.L.E. School, Evesham Township Council said the amount of offered by the BOE for school resource officer would lead to a reduced program and council honored a retirement police K-9. Evesham BOE tables approval of lease to Y.A.L.E. School for rental of Evans Elementary School

Final approval of the lease between the Evesham Township School District and operators of Y.A.L.E. School to rent the Evans Elementary School building will have to wait until at least next month. While the lease was scheduled for approval at the June meeting of the ETSD Board of Education, the BOE tabled approval of the lease at its meeting this week, citing a need for more time to review the agreement.

Evesham Council accepts BOE’s $250,000 payment toward SRO program but warns program will change

The school resource officer program that has stationed cops in schools throughout the Evesham Township School District for the past year-and-a-half will continue in some form for the 2017–2018 school year, but the program will look different. That was the warning from Mayor Randy Brown at this week’s Evesham Township Council meeting when council approved a resolution accepting the Evesham Board of Education’s offer of $250,000, which would only partially fund the current program.

Evesham Council honors retired police K-9 Ciko and his handler

Evesham Council honored two police officers at this week’s Evesham Council meeting — one with two legs and one with four. Council honored K-9 handler Sgt. Dan Burdette and Evesham Police K-9 Ciko with a proclamation to mark Ciko’s recent retirement from the department after six years of service.

Lenape Regional High School District BOE approves four-year contracts for teachers and other staff

The Lenape Regional High School District (LRHSD) Board of Education unanimously approved a four-year employment contract with the Lenape District Education Association (LDEA) this week. The LDEA represents approximately 850 teachers and other staff. The district also approved a four-year employment contract with the Lenape District Support Staff Association (LDSSA). The LDSSA represents the district’s bus drivers and custodians.

Operation Yellow Ribbon of SJ in running to win $50,000 in Wawa Foundation Hero Award contest’

​Operation Yellow Ribbon of South Jersey has announced that the charity is one of four finalists for this year’s Wawa Foundation Hero Award contest. According to OYRSJ officials, the group has a one in four chance of winning $50,000 to help the group in its mission of providing morale boosting care packages to men and women of the U.S. Military deployed to the Middle East.
