Medford Township Council holds scheduled meeting

Highlights include announcements of road closures, approvals of EMT volunteers and Pine Barrens Festival “Focus on Our Town” Nominees.

The announcements of several road closures kicked off last Tuesday night’s Medford Township Council meeting. The roads will be closed for repaving.

The first road to be closed will be Centennial Avenue, which will be closed on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the two weeks following Wednesday June 21. Local traffic will be allowed through.

On June 26, Skeet Road was to close from Hawkins Road to Maple Street to complete Phase I of a paving project. The road work should last approximately two to five days.

Phase II of Skeet Road’s paving project, which will begin at a later date, has been awarded $210,000 in funding from the state Department of Transportation.

The Hartford Road re-paving is scheduled to start on Wednesday, July 5. The road will be closed except to local traffic from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays for two weeks. The detour route will be Himmelein Road, Stokes Road/Route 541 and Old Marlton Pike/Union Street.

In other news, Council approved residents Connor Lees and Matthew Milukas as volunteer EMS members.

Council also approved Robert Wagner Jr. to his new title of full member of Fire Station 251 and as an EMS member.

Mayor Charles Watson suggested Patrick Devlin to be the town’s “Focus on our Town” nominee” at the Pine Barrens Festival, which will take place in Tabernacle from July 24–29.

Watson has been a firefighter in Medford for 37 years.

The meeting also marked the announcement for the resignation of Dan Farino, the former vice chair of Medford’s Environmental Affairs Advisory Committee. The council is looking to fill his vacancy as soon as possible.

The next Medford Town Council meeting will be held Wednesday, July 5, in the Council/Court Room of the Medford Public Safety Building at 91 Union St. The date was pushed back a day from its typical Tuesday because of the July 4 holiday.
