Kiernan Fallows is the 2017 recipient of the MIA’s Ellen Shiplee Scholarship.
The Moorestown Improvement Association (MIA) has announced it has awarded its annual Ellen Shiplee Scholarship for $1,000 to Kiernan Fallows, a member of the 2017 graduating class of Moorestown High School. Fallows will be attending the University of Delaware in the fall where she plans to major in pre-veterinary medicine. Kiernan hopes to open her own vet practice specializing in the care of large animals like horses. She was selected as this year’s MIA scholarship recipient because of her contributions to improving the greater Moorestown community.
While at Moorestown High, Fallows was involved in a variety of school and community service activities including varsity softball, volunteering with various 4-H clubs, interscholastic equestrian riding, participating in the Appalachian Service Project and serving as chairperson of the annual “Soup for the Soul” event of the Interact Club. The “Soup for the Soul” project benefits Philabundance, which helps feed the homeless population in Philadelphia. Fallows contacted local restaurants to explain the fundraiser and solicit their donations and assistance.
“I do it because I love to help others,” Fallows said of her passion for volunteering. “Giving back has become a huge part of my life, and I love to see the results of the work that I do in my community near and far.”
Since its founding in 1904, the Moorestown Improvement Association has been dedicated to preserving and enhancing the quality of life in the community. Over the years, MIA members have actively engaged in and financially supported initiatives focused on historic preservation, heritage appreciation, environmental concerns and perpetuating the township’s tree-planting tradition. The MIA congratulated Fallows for being a great model of the organization’s core values.
