Top high school baseball players from tristate area compete.

High school baseball all-stars are getting ready to compete for the title of Carpenter Cup Champion.

More than 400 players from the tri-state area will showcase their skills in front of major league scouts and college coaches during the 32nd annual Phillies Carpenter Cup Classic powered by ENGIE. This 15-game tournament, which began on Wednesday, June 14, and runs through Saturday, June 24, is taking place at the Phillies MLB Urban Youth Academy Fields at FDR Park, with the semi-finals and championship games played at Citizens Bank Park.

The Carpenter Cup has been a catalyst for many players to receive scholarships or admission to some of the country’s finest universities. Additionally many Carpenter Cup participants have gone on to big league careers including Mike Piazza, Ben Davis, Mike Koplove, David Miller and Bobby Higginson.

Moorestown High School is represented at the tournament with junior Chris Baker and sophomore Brian McMonagle competing on the Burlington County team.

“The Phillies Carpenter Cup is the major leagues for our area’s youth,” said Jon Joaquin, Director, Youth Baseball Development, The Phillies. “Each year over 400 high school players from the area are able to showcase their skills, giving them the opportunity to receive scholarships and admission to some of the country’s top universities.”

Games feature free admission and parking. For more information and game updates, please visit http://mlb.mlb.com/phi/community/carpenter_cup.jsp.
