After 31 years, the longtime Haddonfield Child Care executive director Dennis Sellers is going to bid farewell later this month. The crowd celebrating Sellers at Treno Pizza Bar on Monday, June 5, was comprised of friends and family, current and past HCC board members and employees, past students, fellow members of The Haddon Fortnightly and many others. Kind words and memories flowed like honey, the sweet sentiments bringing a smile to Sellers’ face as she made her way around the room. Handmade cards, scrawled with the enthusiastic hands of children, were sprinkled on tables, the messages simple and sincere, adorned with colorful crayon drawings and bright stickers.

“The Little Artist:” One sculpture, commemorating two Haddonfield women

Ellen Berry was around 5 years old when she posed for the mold that would become “The Little Artist” sculpture outside of J. Fithian Tatem Elementary School. She said when she learned her likeness was being used in a memorial commemorating one of Tatem’s art teachers, she was too young to understand the significance. Now at age 17 and on the verge of graduating Haddonfield Memorial High School, Berry said she feels privileged to have a piece of both her and art teacher Hillary Johnston outside of a Haddonfield school. She said she hopes the sculpture stands as a testament to the impact of art.

Bobby Fulton Scholarship Fund awards four scholarships to gifted local students

The Bobby Fulton Scholarship Fund presentation took place on May 26 at Tavistock Country Club. The 2017 recipients were Wendy Messer of Audubon High School, Christa DeCoursey of Haddonfield Memorial High School, Eric Rosenheim of Haddon Heights High School and Alyssa Davis of Audubon High School. The funding was previously a single, one time $5,000 grant, but beginning in 2016 the fund received a large donation from the estate of a former Haddonfield High School teacher. This donation has allowed the fund to now award four, 4 year scholarships of $10,000 per year.
