J. Bruce Kunkel was a member of the graduating class in 1967
As members of the Washington Township High School Class of 2017 are preparing to collect their diplomas and venture off to future endeavors, J. Bruce Kunkel returned to his alma mater.
Kunkel, a member of the school’s first graduating class in 1967, had not been back to the school since he left 50 years ago. His cousins Edward and Janice Kunkel, contacted the Washington Township Police Department and requested a surprise tour of the building. Student Resource Officer Tony Leone obliged and guided Kunkel, his wife Sharon and his cousins throughout the WTHS campus.
Kunkel lives in Niskayuna, New York, and is retired from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, where he served as the director of campus planning and facilities design.
“Mr. Kunkel very much enjoyed his time as a student at Washington Township High School and was very surprised at the magnitude of change over the years,” Leone said. “I was happy to welcome him back.”
