“Boots, Helmet and Rifle” sculpture at Palmyra War Memorial to see first Memorial Day
Since the Palmyra War Memorial’s construction nearly 30 years ago, the War Memorial Committee has wanted a statue representing the makeshift grave marker for fallen soldiers used on foreign battlefields dating back to World War I. The newly added “Boots, Helmet and Rifle” sculpture will finally see its first Memorial Day at the Palmyra War Memorial on Monday, May 29. McElwee said they thought they would have it in time for last Memorial Day, but due to delays in production, the committee was forced to use a mock-up of the sculpture at last year’s Memorial Day Observance ceremony.
Downtown Palmyra Farmer’s Market is giving the community what they asked for
Palmyra’s Business Community & Development Committee began the planning for a farmer’s market began in January. Months later, the first-ever Downtown Palmyra Farmer’s Market will open on Thursday, June 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Band Shell located on Broad Street and Cinnaminson Avenue. The market will run Thursday evenings in June through August with a rotating selection of vendors, food trucks and entertainment. The market will feature locally-sourced produce, coffee, meats, pastries and flowers.
Islamic Center of South Jersey to share Ramadan with Palmyra neighbors
The Islamic Center of South Jersey (ICSJ) will host an interfaith event titled ‘Sharing Ramadan’ to provide an opportunity for South Jersey residents to get to know better their Muslim neighbors and learn about Ramadan and fasting. The event will take place Friday, June 2 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Islamic Center of South Jersey on Garfield Ave. in Palmyra, and the goal is to promote inter-religious understanding and harmony.
