Cherokee High School faculty present students with awards at Renaissance People’s Choice Awards

This ceremony allows faculty the opportunity to recognize outstanding students each year.

Special to The Sun: Senior recipients at the event.

Cherokee High School faculty presented 76 students with awards at the 20th Annual Renaissance People’s Choice Award Ceremony on Tuesday, May 23.

This ceremony allows faculty (administrators, teachers, counselors, librarians, nurses, secretaries, custodians, cafeteria workers) the opportunity to recognize one outstanding student each year.

According to Cherokee, the reasons students are chosen include a variety of reasons such as being a hard working student, a peer leader, most improved student, most enthusiastic student or a variety of other criteria the staff member sees fit.

The faculty member submits the student’s name and writes a brief description on why they have nominated that particular student. The staff’s identity is kept a secret until the award ceremony where they then read aloud to the student and audience.

Each student is presented with a medallion that is worn at their future graduation ceremony. In addition to the medallion students also receive a certificate and a keepsake photograph taken the night of the ceremony of the student with the staff member.
