The tap water discoloration was “unexpected,” according to the township.
Medford Township released the following statement on its website and Facebook page regarding the discoloration of residents’ tap water.
The Township is filling the recent [sic] renovated Fairview Road water tower. This process has resulted in unexpected cloudy water in portions of the distribution system. The Township is aware of the issue and is working diligently to mitigate the situation.
According to Richard Parks, Medford’s Director of Neighborhood Services, the issue should resolve itself if residents run their water for 5–10 minutes before using. After that, the water should be safe to drink and bathe in.
“It’s nothing to be alarmed about,” said Medford’s Director of Neighborhood Services Richard Parks.
Parks informed that the township’s water tower was recently repainted inside and out, which required the draining of the water tower. Refilling the water tower “disturbed some of the sediment” in the pipes, resulting in the discoloration.
