Carl Letizia, age 85, was honored for his service as a petty officer in both the U.S. Marines and Navy during the Korean War.
On Saturday, May 20, eight South Jersey ShopRite supermarkets owned and operated by Zallie Supermarkets Inc., rolled out the red carpet to welcome almost fifty local veterans and their families during the sixth annual Memorial Day Luncheon To Honor Veterans.
Marlton resident Carl Letizia, age 85, was honored at the ShopRite of West Berlin.
Letizia served as a petty officer in both the U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He attended the luncheon with his wife, Dorothy and granddaughter, Danielle.
Letizia was given a Swarovski ornament and a gourmet fruit and cheese basket as gifts.
“The Zallie Family and our 2,000 associates are extremely proud to host this event every May,” said storeowners Bruce and George Zallie. “It can never truly repay the sacrifices made, but it’s our way of coming together to express our sincerest gratitude for all those who have served our country.”
Stores in Camden and Gloucester Counties owned and operated by Zallie Supermarkets Inc. each hosted veterans who were preselected with the help of local VFW chapters and represent each branch of the military. Celebrations commenced with a moment of silence to honor all those who serve and those who have fallen, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by local scout troops.
