Laurie Milliken, a six-year Kennedy Health registered nurse, was named one of three national winners of the 2nd annual Pampers Swaddlers “Thank You Nurses” awards. Milliken, a Washington Township resident and Labor and Delivery Unit nurse at Kennedy University Hospital was honored on May 10 during National Nurses Week in May.
Developed with the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric & Neonatal Nurses and the National Association of Neonatal Nurses, the award honors nurses who go “above and beyond through the touches of love they give to babies and their parents” across three care categories: labor and delivery, neonatal intensive care unit and postpartum. Milliken was one of more than 3,000 nurses nominated nationally, and received the award in the labor and delivery category. She was nominated by Virginia Orme, of Berlin, for making the selfless decision to give up time with her own family during the 2016 holidays and stay beyond her shift to be by her patient’s side during many hours of labor.
Milliken received a one-year membership to AWHONN, including attendance at the annual convention, a $5,000 scholarship, a P&G care package, commemorative plaque and other gifts. Milliken and her co-workers were also treated to a celebratory lunch at the hospital.
