The department will utilize appropriate control devices to facilitate roadside checks in accordance with departmental policy and law.
Evesham Police Chief Christopher Chew and the Evesham Police Department announce the department’s intention to use the full effects of roadside checkpoints this spring/summer season in the enforcement of intoxicated/impaired drivers.
According to police, Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) is a serious violation of state law and is taken very seriously by the entire Evesham Police Department.
Police say officers from the department will utilize appropriate traffic control devices to facilitate roadside checks in accordance with departmental policy and law.
According to police, motorists traveling on the selected roadway(s) will be asked to slow down and even stop during the course of a checkpoint. Police will make every effort to limit traffic delays. Motorists are asked to be patient and cooperate with such proactive measures in a “police-public partnership” on making our roadways safer for everyone. According to the department, the goal is to prevent motorists from driving while intoxicated.
Drunk driving enforcement funds collected provided by the township and the state will be used to fund the DWI enforcement efforts.
The aforementioned checkpoints will / may be operational through Sept. 10.
Police say the exact locations, dates, and times will not be revealed at this time. However, potential areas of operation will be major roadways and/or thoroughfares (state/county/municipal) that pass through the township.
More specifically, roadways such as Route 73, Route 70, Maple Avenue, Greentree Road, Evesboro-Medford Road, Main Street and/or Marlton Parkway will be utilized. Police say all checkpoints will be highly visible at the time of execution.
Concerned citizens are encouraged to report erratic, aggressive and/or DWI driving to law enforcement authorities.
